Energy Study with Passive House Principles

The Village of Rhinebeck is seeking competitive proposals from firms to conduct an energy audit and design review of its municipal building at 76 E Market St, which contains the Village Hall and the Firehouse, utilizing passive house principles as outlined in the tasks below.  An eligible audit must be conducted with either a member of the firm’s team or a subcontractor that has a passive house certification and proven experience with passive house projects. The project must minimally include analysis of the following along with recommendations for implementation detailing estimated projected cost and energy savings:

●        Super-insulated envelopes: Insulation levels in walls, foundations, roofs (recommended measures should include thickness, U and R values)

●        Airtight construction: Identifying and quantifying of heat loss or gain, ensuring air tightness and suggest air sealing as needed to remediate, and looking for air leaks

●        High-performance glazing: Identifying insufficient or inefficient windows (including U-value, solar heat gain coefficient, and airtightness information of recommended replacements or upgrades)

●        Thermal-bridge-free detailing: Examine areas of high heat transfer through the building envelope

●        Heat Recovery Ventilation: Assess ventilation system design (sized to provide fresh air while minimizing energy loss), look at the heat recovery performance

●        Heating and Cooling HVAC upgrades (heat pumps)

●        Hot water heating (heat pump hot water heaters)

Deliverables must be completed before the end of 2025.

Project Completed by December 31, 2025

This project works towards the Village’s energy efficiency goals and would upgrade the building for a stable and efficient future. The Village of Rhinebeck is a participant in NYSERDA’s Clean Energy Communities program and recently successfully completed upgrades to its Police Station and Wastewater Treatment Plant with heat pumps and heat pump hot water heaters.
