Our Approach

The Village Highway & Maintenance Department maintains Village streets, picks up recycling and trash from public receptacles, provides leaf and brush pickup, and maintains Village parks.

We serve our residents to keep our Village tidy, and our approach is ever evolving to be beneficial to our eco-system.

Bulk Mulch & Compost

We collect leaves and yard brush, which is then recycled into mulch at our Village Garage. We have excess compost from our Village Compost Pilot. Mulch and compost are for sale during non-winter months for $40/yard. Free delivery to Village residents. $50 delivery fee within the Town of Rhinebeck, and $60 delivery fee for outside of the Village/Town. Deliveries outside of the Town of Rhinebeck shall not exceed a maximum distance of 25 miles one-way. Commercial client pick-up is allowed at a rate of $40/yard with a $150 loading fee. Order and pay by contacting the Deputy Clerk, Krissy cdenu@villageofrhinebeckny.gov.

Tree Commission

The Village first earned the title Tree City USA in 2010, and has continuously maintained this designation since. The Village’s volunteer Tree Commission reviews residents’ requests for managing and removing and planting street trees. They also work with a volunteer corps on tree plantings twice a year, as well as with the Highway & Maintenance Department and volunteers on pruning and managing our “urban forest.”

Park Maintenance

The Village Highway & Maintenance Department oversees the maintenance of Legion Park, which includes Crystal Lake and Asher Dam.

The Village owns Lions Mini Park and co-manages it with the Rhinebeck Lions Club. This park features children’s play structures. The Landsman Kill runs right through this park, on its way to the Asher Dam, which creates the man-made Crystal Lake.
