Police Reform Committee Chair

Overview:

It takes a village to fight injustice and create a culture where everyone is respected, valued, and treated fairly. Many issues touched on by the community stakeholder committee demand further research, discussion, and consideration before action can be recommended. A committee will be created and consist of multiple working groups to address the topics of community engagement and accountability and oversight that fosters trust, fairness and transparency. The first step in the creation of the Police Reform Committee is to appoint the Chair.

The position of the Chair of the Police Reform Committee, must meet the following criteria and goals for the Village of Rhinebeck:

-        Must be a village resident

-        Must have working knowledge of the police dept., their policy and procedures.

-        Be willing to lead a diverse group of volunteers that consist of people from various functions, locations, skills, which will have a broader reach outside of the village.

-        Understand the issues touched on by the committee that demands further research, discussion, and consideration before action can be recommended.

-        Create a committee that represents the community at-large with special attention to people of color, young people who have interacted with police, and those whose primary language is not English.

-        Form working groups to make recommendations for the village to pass on to other police agencies and other government bodies.
