Potential Fire Risk

The recent weather conditions are good for risk of wildfires from outdoor fire pits. The local tradition for hosting family and friends around an outdoor fire pit may put others at risk.

Locally, there have been several wildfires in and around the county because of the extreme dry conditions.

Currently, NYS is in a high (Yellow) state. All fine dead fuels ignite readily and fires start easily from most causes. Unattended brush and campfires are likely to escape. Fires spread rapidly and short distance spotting os common. High intesity burning may develop on slopes or in concentration of fine fuels. Fires may become serious and their control difficult unless they are attacked successfully while small.
