Rhinebeck Launches a Drive Electric Campaign
Making the switch to an electric vehicle can feel daunting. Rhinebeck launches an effort to help.
On Saturday, September 23, 11am-2pm, Village Task Force, Climate Smart Rhinebeck, will host a meetup where residents can come check out their neighbors' EVs and hybrids and go for a ride. The goal of the event—entitled “EV-Curious?”—is to get residents decision-making information in a community-minded way. Residents can get their questions answered from other Rhinebeckers who have made the switch. Ruge's will also be on hand with some shiny new models.
The event is free and takes place at the Thompson-Mazzarella Park parking lot (by the Town Pool). Mr. Ding-a-Ling’s ice cream truck will be there too, as well as partner organizations with sustainability information.
If 5 or more community members purchase an EV in the ensuing months, Climate Smart Rhinebeck will earn the Village a $5000 grant from NYSERDA! The grant money will be invested in further emission-reducing initiatives.
The effort is part of NYSERDA’s Clean Energy Communities program, where municipalities can run themed “community campaigns” to encourage the adoption of clean energy technology. The event on September 23 is also one of a lineup of events for Rhinebeck’s participation in Climate Solutions Week, September 17 - 26. Check Climate Smart Rhinebeck’s webpage for more happenings.
