Parks Committee Member Positions
The Village Board has established a Parks Committee and is seeking volunteers to ensure that our green spaces are welcoming, accessible and safe for both residents and visitors.
The Parks Committee shall consist of no less than five and no more than nine volunteer members, either Village or Town of Rhinebeck residents. Preference will be given to Village residents as well as to at least one member of the Lions Club (or its successor benefactor at the Mini Park), at least one member of the Veterans’ community and at least one member with a background in landscape architecture. A Village Board member shall serve as liaison.
Each member shall serve a three-year term, with the exception that at the Committee’s inception: two members shall be appointed a 3-year term, two members shall be appointed a 2-year term, and two members shall be appointed to a 1-year term. Thereafter each term shall last three years, except in the case of vacancies which shall be filled for the remainder of the term.
Responsibilities of the Parks Committee are as follows:
-Bring together stakeholders to develop a cohesive vision for our green spaces.
-Prioritize park improvements.
-Partner with the Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee on the Plan provisions that impact our greenspaces.
-Bring forward proposals for park improvements and/or modifications and submit them to the Village Board.
-Promote sustainable policies and practices that enable our parks to be resilient to climate change and severe weather conditions.
-Encourage biodiversity and work to minimize the impact of invasive species.
-Clarify who is responsible for duties such as mowing, pruning, planting and playground equipment repairs.
-Develop and display rules for park usage as needed.
-Improve signage.
-Develop a policy that regulates the use of Village parks for gifts/memorials, given the limited amount of green space.
